SpineSource® Launches New Novel Cervical PEEK Cage

ST. LOUIS, MO –SpineSource®, Inc. has launched a new novel Cervical PEEK Optima® Cage called the SHELL™.

The SHELL™ PEEK Optima® ACIF provides surgeons the ability to implant a 12 mm, 14 mm or 16 mm width while providing a CONVEX-LORDOTIC shape designed specifically to fit the unique anatomy of the cervical disc space. Providing these dimensions with beveled lateral edges allows positioning of the implant on the apophyseal ring, regardless of the patient’s stature: small, medium or large. Eight titanium markers on each corner of the implant provides additional endplate fixation while also serving as x-ray markers.

SpineSource has U.S. rights to the SHELL™, which is patented, trademarked and manufactured by Advanced Medical Technologies, AG (Nonnweiler, Germany). This is the second launch of AMT’s products in the U.S. through SpineSource. The first was the LOOP™ Articulating TLIF.

“Most surgeons and spinal implant professionals assume there is nothing new with interbody fusion technology. However, the LOOP™ TLIF and now the SHELL™ ACIF have corrected this assumption. There is still a lot of advancement in spinal implant technology to improve the lives of patients while giving surgeons better options to enhance outcomes,” said Tom Mitchell, President and CEO of SpineSource.

Founded in 2004 and based in the St. Louis suburb of Chesterfield, Missouri, SpineSource is a U.S. stocking distributor for spinal implants and focuses upon the niche and novel market segments within the $4 billion U.S. spinal implant industry. It is the largest independent stocking distributor of spinal implants in the country with more than 250 independent representatives in all 50 states.
