Wright Medical Group, Inc. Announces the Launch of PROPHECY(TM) Pre-Operative Navigation

ARLINGTON, Tenn., Apr 08, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Wright Medical Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: WMGI), a global orthopaedic medical device company, announced today the full launch of its new PROPHECY(TM) Pre-Operative Navigation Guides for knee arthroplasty, recently previewed by the Company at the annual American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons meeting.
The PROPHECY(TM) program will enable surgeons to utilize basic CT or MRI scan technology to plan precise implant placement and alignment, before they enter the O.R. Therefore, surgeons will envision the results of surgery before it actually occurs. In contrast to utilizing traditional instruments to align the knee during surgery, the PROPHECY(TM) program utilizes computer imaging to develop patient-specific guides that follow the unique curvature of the patient’s bone anatomy. “In many ways each patient’s bone anatomy is like a fingerprint,” said David DeBoer, M.D. of Nashville, Tennessee. “The guides produced by the PROPHECY(TM) program fit snugly onto the end of bone by matching the individual’s very distinctive contour, ensuring the implant is positioned to match their own anatomical shape.”

Simon Finger, M.D. of New Orleans, Louisiana, noted, “The process for the PROPHECY(TM) program begins weeks in advance. By applying this technology prior to the procedure, we enter into the operating room with a very well-defined plan with very accurate guides. Our goal is to increase accuracy while decreasing O.R. time.” Once the procedure begins, patient-specific PROPHECY(TM) guides allow the surgeon to complete the implant placement with accuracy. By promoting accurate alignment, providing optimal sizing and guiding precision implant placement, Wright’s new PROPHECY(TM) pre-operative navigation delivers reproducible surgical results for knee arthroplasty.
