Another ex-Stryker Biotech rep. pleads guilty

Another former employee of Hopkinton, Mass.-based Stryker Biotech has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of misbranding a medical device.

Shane Doyle, 32, of Winchester, Mass., is at least the third ex-Stryker employee to plead guilty in an ongoing investigation. Stryker Biotech employees allegedly engaged in an extensive effort to promote the sale and use of a company product for uses not approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration.

Doyle, who was a territory manager for Stryker Biotech, could have faced up to three years in prison and a quarter million dollar fine. But under a plea agreement filed in connection with the case, prosecutors will recommend incarceration or other confinement in the “low end” of the range prescribed by sentencing guidelines. The government also will recommend a $10,000 fine.

Under the deal, Doyle agreed to cooperate with the government.
