Smith & Nephew receives Exogen subpoena

LONDON, April 16 (Reuters) – Smith & Nephew (SN.L), Europe’s leading medical devices company, has received a subpoena from the U.S. Department of Justice over its ultrasound stimulation product Exogen.

Officials have asked for documents relating to Exogen and other matters from 1995 onwards, the company said in a statement on Thursday, adding that it believes similar inquiries were directed at its competitors.

The company added that along with other U.S. manufacturers, it also faces questions over sales and marketing of bone growth stimulation products.

It is not the first time that the company has been under investigation in the United States.
