Zimmer cutting retiree benefits
Orthopedics manufacturer Zimmer Inc. will stop offering self-funded medical and life insurance benefits to retirees at the end of the year, the company said Monday.
The company informed about 150 retirees and 1,700 affected employees earlier this month, Warsaw-based Zimmer said in an e-mail. Employees hired before September 2002 were eligible for the benefits.
“This decision is among a number of recent cost prioritization decisions made to position the organization for long-term, sustainable growth,” the company said.
Zimmer is working with an insurance company to offer a medical plan for current and future retirees, the company said.
The company cut less than 5 percent of its global workforce, including more than 100 Kosciusko County jobs, two weeks ago.
