Wright Medical Group, Inc. Launches DYNASTY(R) BIOFOAM(TM) Acetabular Cup System

ARLINGTON, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 15, 2009– Wright Medical Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: WMGI), a global orthopaedic medical device company, today announced the launch of the DYNASTY® BIOFOAM™ Acetabular Cup System. This latest addition to the DYNASTY® system features proprietary bone-like titanium with a roughened texture that “bites” into bone for enhanced immediate fixation when compared to traditional porous beads. The BIOFOAM™ material also features a trabecular structure intended to mimic bone and contribute to bone in-growth and biological fixation.

Commenting on his surgical experiences with the DYNASTY® BIOFOAM™ system, Lowry C. Barnes, M.D. of St. Vincent Orthopedic Center in Little Rock, Arkansas stated, “The application of the BIOFOAM™ material, a novel bone in-growth surface, to the already successful DYNASTY® socket provides the surgeon confidence in challenging situations and allows the patient the many advantages of A-CLASS® metal bearings and larger diameter femoral head technology.”

Michael Carroll, Senior Director of Wright’s Implant Technology Group, noted, “Wright has once again leveraged its proprietary BIOFOAM™ CANCELLOUS TITANIUM™ technology, this time as a bone in-growth coating for the DYNASTY® acetabular shell. Compared to traditional beaded surfaces, the BIOFOAM™ material has enhanced frictional properties to resist torque loads that could cause loosening. In addition, its reticulated structure and optimal porosity and pore size allow bone to penetrate deeply within the foam material, which enhances immediate fixation and longer-term bone ingrowth and implant stability.”
