AGH teams with Revita, Pneumex to on clinical trial for spinal device

Allegheny General Hospital is teaming withPneumex Inc. and its subsidiary, Revita Consumer Products LLC, to investigate non-surgical treatment options for spinal pain associated with nerve compression, the hospital announced on Tuesday.

The initial clinical trial will measure the effectiveness of a consumer device that Revita created to relieve spinal pressure while patients are seated. The hospital’s Department of Neurosurgery, Neuroscience Research Institute and Allegheny Singer Research Institute are testing a belt that fits like an abdominal binder and a harness that fits any chair.

The device helps reduce pressure on the spine, according to Dr. Donald Whiting, vice chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Allegheny General, which combined with poor posture is a common cause of chronic low back pain.
