Biomet Provides Initial Funding to ONCOR (Osteopathic National Center for Orthopaedic Research)

WARSAW, Ind.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Biomet, Inc. and the Osteopathic National Center for Orthopaedic Research (ONCOR) announce initial funding to support clinical research in orthopaedic Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) residencies.

ONCOR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with the mission to raise funds to help support research and education within all orthopaedic DO residencies in North America.

Orthopaedic DO residency programs, which typically are based in community hospitals, have a long history of delivering quality orthopaedic care and training for the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. ONCOR was founded in 2007 to implement orthopaedic research into these residency programs, by providing a source of funding for research laboratories at university based osteopathic colleges. ONCOR began as collaboration between Michigan State University, the orthopaedic residency program at Ingham Regional Medical Center and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics (AOAO).

In March 2010, ONCOR will present its First Annual Research Symposium for DO orthopaedic clinical researchers at the scientific meeting of the AOAO. At that time, ONCOR will announce the availability of research grants for residents, which will be determined on a competitive basis. ONCOR will solicit and review applications, and award grants at its sole discretion. Biomet has traditionally been a strong supporter of resident education and research projects. The Biomet/ONCOR partnership will serve to expand research opportunities at the 29 orthopaedic DO residency programs.
