Innovative Orthopedic Nailing System Receives CE Mark using Oxford Performance Material’s OXPEKK® BioFlex™

Enfield, CT (PRWEB) January 18, 2010 — Oxford Performance Materials (OPM) and N.M.B. Medical Applications have collaborated on the development of a humeral composite nail for long-bone fractures called the Quantum Composite Nailing System™. N.M.B.’s Quantum Composite Nailing System™ has recently received CE mark clearance. This new ground-breaking product is manufactured from OPM’s OXPEKK® BioFlex™ carbon composite product line. The Quantum Composite Nailing System™ offers enhanced biomechanical properties, elasticity modulus similar to bone, and is radiolucent, thus it provides increased ability to monitor union in X-ray, CT and MRI scans.
OPM’s OXPEKK® BioFlex™ offers fully implantable carbon fiber composites that are radiolucent and can be anisotropic, thus enabling highly selective mechanical performance. This ability allows the designer of such implants freedom to achieve an optimal biomechanical profile. “We feel OXPEKK® BioFlex™ is a game changer for the orthopedic industry that has been significantly restricted by metallic non radiolucent, isotropic materials” said Scott DeFelice, President and CEO from OPM. “We are very delighted that N.M.B. Medical Applications has taken the lead in commercializing OXPEKK® BioFlex™, and believe they will continue to be an important company in driving innovative technologies to the marketplace.”

“We have evaluated many commercially-available polyketones for this project,” said Elad Einav, Project Manager of N.M.B. Medical Applications, “and OPM not only offered superior technology, but also a highly flexible and dynamic technical partnership. To us a combination of these factors made OPM an excellent development partner and we are now very pleased to bring the Quantum Nailing System to market.”
