Medtronic Pledges $1 Million to Haiti Earthquake Relief

MINNEAPOLIS – Jan. 21, 2010 – Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) announced today that it has pledged $1 million through the Medtronic Foundation to support earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Contributions could exceed $1.25 million with product and employee donations.

The Foundation will match employee donations up to $250,000, with matching funds directed to Partners in Health. An additional $750,000 in grants will be directed to the rebuilding of healthcare infrastructure in Haiti. The Foundation is currently assessing potential nonprofit partners to lead those efforts. Employees worldwide also are offered five days of paid leave to assist in recovery efforts.

In addition to monetary contributions, the company is actively exploring product donations with several partners already working in Haiti.

These donations are in addition to an existing five-year, $500,000 grant to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies disaster relief fund, which ensures that immediate financial support is available for responding to emergencies.
