Mazor sells second robotic surgical system in US

Mazor Surgical Technologies Ltd. (TASE:MZOR) reports the sale of a second robotic spinal surgical system to a US hospital. The system has been purchased by the Bethseda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio for about $500,000. This was the second sale of Mazor’s Spine Assist system to a US hospital in the second quarter of 2010.

The system has been working successfully in the Cincinnati hospital for some time and met with the satisfaction of doctors there, and this led to the decision to purchase the equipment. The sale will be included in Mazor’s second quarter financials.

The deal also includes a four-year service agreement. Bethseda North Hospital is committed to running a marketing campaign promoting the system’s use among its patients.

The success of Mazor’s strategic entry into the US market and its first sales there are the product of the successful use of the company’s system in back surgery in American, German, Russian and Israeli hospitals. Mazor sees the business potential of the US market as its primary target and expects to report more sales in the second half of 2010.

Mazor’s share rose 2.15% in afternoon trading on the TASE to NIS 10.47.
