Physician Innovation Platform Launches at Spine Surgery Annual Conference

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (May 2, 2011) – The International Society for Advancement in Spine Surgery (ISASS) is pleased to announce that ScrubStorm, an Internet-based Innovation Platform for clinical inventors and leading medical device users, has been beta-launched at its annual conference, SAS11.  The meeting was conducted from April 26 – 29.  Additionally, ISASS announces a partnership with ScrubStorm to further innovation in spine surgery.

Researchers at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business have demonstrated that physicians play a vital role in conceiving solutions to medical challenges that can be addressed with a medical device, instrument, diagnostic, or equipment.  These inventive doctors are working private practice clinicians as well as those associated with academic medical centers.  These physicians have a drive to find solutions to medical problems, despite often having few resources.  Many physician innovators, however, don’t pursue their ideas due to the lack of support and resources and a need exists for fostering physician-based early conceptualization and medical device development.

Market-driven Innovation puts the customer at the head of the new product conceptualization process and, in the case of medical devices, involves physicians in the early development of novel products.  ScrubStorm is a new approach to facilitating Market-driven Innovation.  Scrubstorm.com is referred to as the “Open Cloud” portion of ScrubStorm, which is free to medical professionals and is a collaboration tool and marketplace.  Partner companies pay a membership fee to participate in the Open Cloud.  ScrubStorm also offers “Private Cloud” versions of the platform for companies and institutions that choose to tailor their innovation process to their culture, inviting specific customers and contributors.

ScrubStorm President Ken Solovay states, “We have chosen to beta-launch ScrubStorm.com at SAS11 due to the demonstrated creativity and innovative nature of spinal surgeons.  The ISASS Society is providing its members an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on training from our company while attending their annual conference.”  According to past-president of the society Hansen Yuan, M.D., “The ISASS Society partnering with ScrubStorm demonstrates to our members the commitment to innovation in spine surgery and furthers our mission”.  Mr. Solovay adds, “this is a great opportunity for spine surgery companies and institutions that believe in Market-driven Innovation to join the Beta version of ScrubStorm.com and gain early adopter advantages before we expand to additional medical specialties.”
