Ranier has been granted a CE mark for its new fusion cage, Anatom-C, which is made from a unique polymeric material. Using Ranier’s proprietary materials technology developed initially for making artificial, replacement spinal discs, the stiffness of the Anatom-C material has been specifically selected to match the stiffness of cancellous bone. By contrast, standard fusion cages made from older materials such as Titanium and PEEK are significantly harder than bone and surgeons have been seeking products made from stratified rather than generic materials for spinal procedures.
The Anatom-C cage is anatomically shaped to match the natural cervical anatomy, and is calcium phosphate coated, unlike the fusions cages made from Titanium or PEEK.
Initially Anatom-C is being launched in a range of 15 different sizes with the smallest product being just 4mm in height.
Dr Scott Johnson, Head of Development said “Using our unique polymer science coupled with in-line, injection molding technology, we have created a product that meets surgeon’s needs and can be manufactured at significantly lower costs than current products.”
