Centinel Spine™ Introduces MIDLINE II™ Lumbar Integrated Interbody™ System

NEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Centinel Spine, Inc. (Centinel Spine), the pioneer of Stand-Alone, No-Profile® fusion devices, introduced MIDLINE II™, its next generation STALIF® Family Lumbar Integrated Interbody™ fusion device.

MIDLINE II provides a solution to restore sagittal balance and lordosis, simplify Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF) surgery, and maximize opportunities for lumbar fusion.  MIDLINE II is the only Stand-Alone, No-Profile, Lumbar Integrated Interbody fusion device, with compressive fixation, that has been proven to be biomechanically equivalent to a 3600 fusion.

One of the key MIDLINE II design changes is the medial screw hole configuration which enables the surgeons to place the lateral screws more easily and facilitate overall fixation through the reduction in the surgical envelope.  Surgeon feedback suggests that the design changes enhance the surgical technique and reduce anatomical risks involved with ALIF surgeries.  The size offerings and geometric shape of the MIDLINE II device have also been updated to facilitate ease of implantation and to better suit a varying patient population.

Dr. Michael Duffy, spine surgeon at Texas Back Institute, commented, “The enhanced screw angulation on the MIDLINE II device addresses the challenges in placing the lateral screws.  This new implant design paired with the streamlined STALIF instrumentation makes this the best system available on the market today”.

“Influenced by the success of STALIF Midline™, MIDLINE II marks the next generation of ALIF cages designed to facilitate the surgical procedure and provide better outcomes for patients”, says John J. Viscogliosi, CEO and President of Centinel Spine.  “The addition of MIDLINE II to our product portfolio is another step towards fulfilling Centinel Spine’s corporate mission of becoming the leader in anterior column support.”

MIDLINE II was presented at the 2014 North American Spine Society (NASS) Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California to leading spine surgeons and received very positive feedback.  The company intends to launch MIDLINE II in early 2015 with extensive surgeon training.
