9 medical apps for orthopedic surgeons to keep up with literature

We all have our favorite journals we follow in order to keep up to date with the latest medical literature. And while many journals have their own mobile versions, keeping up with each publication separately can be a tedious and time consuming task. We’ve reviewed several apps recently that can help you streamline that process, saving time and making you more efficient. Here we’ll share a few great resources we’ve come across that can help keep orthopedic surgeons up to date.

There are several great apps out there for keeping up with the journals you follow. Three good choices, all of which we’ve recently reviewed, are Read by QxMD, Docwise, and Docphin. All three give you feeds of your favorite orthopedic journals and you can also access and save full text PDFs of articles for open access publications. Plus, if you have institutional access you can enter your credentials in the app and get access to subscription journals as well. Here are a few differences that may help you pick between the three:

  • Read has the best annotating features for PDFs and the full-text PDFs are saved locally, annotations included.
  • Docphin integrates with Dropbox via the app and Evernote via the web; PDFs are saved on those services.
  • Docwise lets you follow the widest range of content, including mainstream media sites in addition to traditional journals.
