DGIMED ORTHO Announces First U.S. Use of DISTALOCKTM IM Nail System

DGIMED ORTHO, Inc. announced today the first U.S. use of the company’s DISTALOCKTM Titanium Femoral Intramedullary Nail system. The procedure was performed at North Memorial Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center in the Minneapolis area.

The attending orthopaedic surgeon, Thomas N. Conner, M.D., stated “The unique feature of the DGIMED system is their DISTALOCKTM drill, which allows the surgeon to implant the distal locking screws with minimal use of radiation. This part of the procedure normally involves a lot of radiation exposure, so this new technique is safer for the surgeon, the hospital staff, and the patient. The drill worked great.”

“We are honored to have one of our local surgeons be the first to use this revolutionary system in the U.S., and we are excited that the drill performed as expected for Dr. Conner. Awareness of occupational exposure to radiation in medicine continues to grow, and it is widely recognized that this procedure is a significant contributor to the cumulative lifetime exposure of the orthopaedic surgeon. Our system can reduce this exposure,” stated Phil Smith, the company’s President and CEO.

DGIMED ORTHO, Inc. is an early-stage medical device company that is commercializing a new, proprietary system to assist orthopaedic surgeons in the delivery and distal locking of long-bone intramedullary implants.
