DJ Stanmore Implants Worldwide Buys Robot Surgery Co Acrobot

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Stanmore Implants Worldwide, a privately-held maker of specialized orthopedic implants, said Wednesday it acquired medical device company Acrobot for an undisclosed sum.

Acrobot designs systems used by surgeons to plan operations using computers and carry out procedures with the help of robots.

Brian Steer, executive chairman of Stanmore and a former chairman of Gyrus Group PLC, said robotics and computer-assisted navigation are gaining ground in orthopedic surgery.
