DJO Global, Inc. is putting a series of new DJO Surgical products on the red carpet at this year’s American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting in Chicago on March 20-22.
DJO is expanding its e+ technology—a blended vitamin e polyethylene. The latest addition includes the first everblended vitamin e glenoid component for total shoulder arthroplasty.
Optimized Direct Anterior Approach Solutions
These solutions include the Linear dual-tapered hip stem and the Revelation microMAX anatomic hip stem with lateral flare technology.
Movation Total Knee System With e+ Technology
The Movation total knee is the next phase in the evolution of congruent PS Knee designs. Movation is a decades-long clinically successful Hospital for Special Surgery design, redefined with modern features. It is complemented by the S.U.R.E. Instrumentation System.
Trabecular Titanium Acetabular System
The new Trabecular Titanium Acetabular System will provide an aggressive fixation cup solution for tough primary or revision scenarios. Trabecular Titanium cups are manufactured using an electron beam melting technology, which allows the porosity to be controlled and integral to the cup (not a coating).
Bryan Monroe, senior vice president and general manager of DJO Surgical told OTW, “A lot of hard work went into launching this many products at this year’s AAOS. As with all projects, there were hurdles in the development process, but we are thrilled with the final outcome of each of the new products. We are excited to expand our e+ blended vitamin E polyethylene into our shoulder line. e+ has been a part of our knee line for over a year, and the initial results have been fantastic. We are confident that e+ will benefit patients that receive the device. e+ differs from other vitamin E polyethylene products in the way that the vitamin E is introduced into the polyethylene material. While a number of products on the market are ‘infused’ with vitamin E, meaning the vitamin E is added to the part after it is manufactured, e+ is blended directly into the resin for a more uniform distribution of the vitamin E within the polyethylene. This should help the material retain improved mechanical and wear properties throughout the part.”
He added, “The Movation Total Knee System is our latest knee system based on patented technology from the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). The so called ‘913’ patent has become known as the gold standard for PCL substituting knee designs, and we have been able to license and leverage the critical aspects of the patent. In addition, we have added several contemporary features to improve on an already well proven design. The Movation knee, as with any knee system, was a huge undertaking due to the number of size options in the system. We are pleased that we are able to launch the full product, complete with e+ technology at this year’s AAOS.”
