It was announced today that the world’s first, non-invasive spinal fusion device has been cleared. A WHAT?? Something is apparently coming to market that we never thought would be possible, an incision-less spinal fusion procedure. Perhaps a screw isn’t just a screw.
How has this technology been kept a secret? There are few details to go on here, but it seems as though this company will have a long list of suitors. I would propose that their phone has been ringing off the hook this morning but how would you value something like this? Does it have other applications? Recon, Trauma, etc? How will the surgeon community respond to such a technology? Because it can be used in the Doctor’s office via force field, the company claims no OR time, faster recovery and lower cost. It seems too good to be true!
