Texas Spine And Joint Named Among Best

Texas Spine and Joint Hospital officials announced another achievement at the facility. The hospital was ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for spine surgery by a new study released by HealthGrades, an independent health care ratings organization.

This is the sixth consecutive year the hospital has been in the top 5 percent nationally for spine surgery.

"We know how important it is to maintain uncompromising standards for quality," said Deborah Pelton, chief nursing officer. "Patients deserve to have confidence in their surgery experience. The dedication of our health care team to safety and quality gives our patients that confidence."

Officials noted TSJH's infection rates have been below 1 percent for six years, which is well below the national average.

"Infection control, fall prevention and patient education before and after surgery all play an important role in overall successful outcomes," said Susan Orr, clinical improvement specialist for TSJH.

The HealthGrades study evaluates objective patient outcomes in the nation's 5,000 hospitals. HealthGrades rates hospitals based on data that submitted to the federal government.

For 28 procedures and treatments, HealthGrades issues star ratings, reflecting the mortality and complication rates for each category of care. Hospitals receiving a five-star rating have mortality or complication rates well below the national average.
