Vertos Medical Named Finalist In Orange County’s High-Tech Innovation Awards For Its Unique Medical Technology

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Aug. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Vertos Medical, a medical device company committed to developing innovative, minimally invasive treatments for lumbar spinal stenosis, has been named as a finalist in the ‘Medical Technology’ category of the Orange County Technology Alliance Annual High-Tech Innovation Awards for itsmild® procedure. mild is an FDA-cleared procedure that has been used to treat lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) in more than 20,000 patients in the United States. Its high safety and efficacy have been demonstrated in more than 12 clinical studies.

More than two million U.S. patients are treated annually for LSS, a degenerative, age-related narrowing of the lower spinal canal which causes compression of the spinal nerves that can lead to increased pain and discomfort when a patient is standing or walking. The vast majority of patients choose low-risk treatments that have very limited proven long-term effectiveness. The mild procedure addresses this unmet need by offering a clinically validated, low cost, low-risk interventional pain therapy that treats the stenosis and provides long-term symptom relief. 1

Vertos’ mild procedure uses specialized instruments and a patented X-ray visualization method to remove small amounts of bone and tissue through an opening about the size of a baby aspirin. The procedure is done in an outpatient setting and requires no general anesthesia, no implants, and no stitches.

“We are honored to be selected as a finalist in this year’s awards for our proprietary technique and instrumentation, which has helped improve the quality of life for thousands of individuals across the nation,” said Eric Wichems, President and CEO of Vertos Medical. “The High-Tech Innovation Awards from the OC Tech Alliance is a Southern California tradition for recognizing technology innovation, and we’re honored to be counted amongst the best.”

Now in its 23rd year, the High-Tech Awards is Southern California’s premier awards program celebrating achievement within the regional tech industry. The OC Tech Alliance honors local companies, leaders and technology products that make Orange County a technology hub. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on October 6, 2016, at the Westin South Coast Plaza.

“Our judges had their work cut out for them this year, and Orange County companies submitted a record number of nominations,” said Peter Craig, CEO of OC Tech Alliance. “We congratulate Vertos Medical for being selected as a finalist. This selection demonstrates an example of the many companies with roots in Orange County driving technology innovation locally and globally.”

In addition to the product awards, OC Tech Alliance will recognize excellence among chief executives leading Orange County-based tech companies. OC Tech Alliance also will celebrate educators and students for their innovative use of science, math and technology in the classroom and the community in conjunction with Project Tomorrow.

Vertos Medical Inc. is a medical device company committed to developing innovative, minimally invasive treatments for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Its proprietary technologies include mild®, which offers a safe, outpatient, minimally invasive, fluoroscopically guided therapeutic LSS treatment that requires no general anesthesia, no implants, and no stitches. LSS is primarily a degenerative, age-related narrowing of the lower spinal canal that causes symptoms of pain and numbness in the lower back, legs, or buttocks. mild® treats this condition by restoring space in the spinal canal using specialized mild® devices to remove hypertrophic ligamentum flavum through a 5.1 mm treatment portal. Clinical studies show that mild® can help LSS patients stand longer and walk farther with less pain1, and no major device related complications have been reported in any clinical trial.2 Vertos Medical headquarters is located in Aliso Viejo, CA.
