Nocimed Announces First Commercial Clients for New Non-Invasive Spinal Pain Assessment Tool In North America and Europe

Nocimed, the leader in the adjunct diagnosis of degenerative disc disease (DDD) pain, has announced that NociScan, a non-invasive test that measures biomarkers associated with disc pain, has launched at Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group (“CSOG”) in Colorado Springs, Colorado USA, and Spire Nottingham Hospital in the United Kingdom.

Since the registration of the NociScan technology under the CE Mark for Europe and the 21st Century Cures Act in the US, Nocimed has been marketing its unique technology to healthcare clinicians focusing on spine surgery, radiology, and pain management.  Using images from existing MRI equipment to perform MR spectroscopy, NociScan detects the presence of chemical biomarkers associated with disc pain and structural integrity of the annulus of the disc.

“CSOG has worked with Nocimed for several years, and it is special to be the first commercial site in the United States to offer the NociScan technology”, said Dr. James M. Bee, M.D., and Co-Founder of CSOG.  “Using NociScan has increased our understanding of the underlying causes of the pain experienced with our patients.  We expect to use this knowledge to help make faster and better clinical decisions, which will improve patients’ lives.”

“The opportunity to be the first site in the United Kingdom for NociScan allows Spire Healthcare to expand its spinal diagnostic capabilities, and offer innovative services for the benefit of our Consultants and Patients”, said Ed Ireland, Director of Clinical Services at Spire Nottingham Hospital.  “We welcome this new innovation.”

“The deployment of NociScan technology in commercial settings is a major accomplishment for Nocimed,” said Brett Lanuti, President and CEO of Nocimed, Inc.  “Over the last decade, we have worked tirelessly to commercialize a non-invasive tool to uncover chemical biomarkers reflecting tissue degeneration and associated with lower back pain.  Seeing NociScan being used in Europe and North America is rewarding, because Nocimed is living up to its promise of helping diagnose lower back pain.  We thank the many clinicians and researchers who have helped us realize this initial commercial achievement.”

About Nocimed

Nocimed was created to significantly improve the diagnoses of spine pain, using technologies originally invented at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF).

Nocimed harnesses the power of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) for the non-invasive measurement of chemical biomarkers in lumbar discs, with an aim to deliver faster, more accurate diagnoses, improved treatment and greater understanding of the causes of degenerative disc disease (DDD).  Nocimed is registered with FDA and has a CE Mark in Europe and so is selling in the US and EU. In June 2019, Nocimed earned its first US revenues.
